lyrics

It was 1930 when astronomers had first recorded
a new celestial body affecting both the orbits
of Neptune and of Uranus, though you might say Uranus
they named the planet Pluto and it was instantly famous

But some astronomers pointed out that it really shouldn't have been
pulling the gas giants this much it really couldn't have been.
The gravity was just too profoundly felt
It was probably these thousands of other rocks
The Kuiper Belt!

This is the problem with categories
The world is not a graph or a laboratory
It's not being a planet is an actual thing
It’s just a word for some stuff and that stuff
Is arbitrary

The International Astronomical Union
Came up with a new definition which ended up ruinin’
The planetary status of our little friend Pluto
But that’s why we have definitions - what could they do so?

“A body that circles the sun without being
some other object's satellite; large enough to be rounded
by its own gravity (but not so big that it causes nuclear fusion, like a star)
And its "cleared its neighborhood"
